Groovy Bachelorette Weekend in Louisville, KY
March 14, 2023Orange Dream Smoothie
May 21, 2023A perfectly sweet blueberry lemon smash cocktail is made with simple ingredients like blueberries, lemon and vodka, and topped with fresh sparkling water and a rosemary sprig. I like to add sugar to the rim of the glass for an extra sweet treat, (fruity cocktails are my version of dessert) but that step is optional. This hot pink, Barbie approved beverage is for the girly girls, although my husband does enjoy it too.
Recently I have been loving super fresh and fruity drinks, and I’ll add this one to the collection alongside my blackberry mojito. The secret to this drink is to muddle the frozen blueberries, lemon wedge and simple syrup, then mix in some vodka and let the mixture chill in the fridge for about a half hour. It’s a little bit more of a time commitment, but the results are stellar. If you’re pressed for time or feeling impatient, you can totally skip this part, but it really is worth the wait!
After about 30 minutes, pull the chilled mixture out and top it with sparkling water and a fresh sprig of rosemary. It’s best to twist the rosemary around in the drink just a bit to really get the full flavor profile. Somehow the herby rosemary flavor perfectly complements the blueberry and lemon. It sounds weird, but it just works.
Lights, camera, action! Holding this gorgeous cocktail just makes me feel like a movie star, and I have put together the perfect diva playlist to accompany it. Sip on a homemade blueberry lemon smash while you jam to these hits to curate the perfect girls night pregame or slumber party atmosphere – and don’t forget to double or triple the recipe for your friends!

Everything You’ll Need to Make a Blueberry Lemon Smash
You’ll just need a few simple ingredients to put together this fabulous drink. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Blueberries: I have found that frozen blueberries work better when I prepare the base of the drink ahead of time and let it chill, but fresh blueberries can work as well.
- Lemon: A ripe lemon is all you’ll need to add some acidity to the drink. I prefer a fresh lemon to the pre-squeezed juice at the grocery store.
- Simple Syrup: Good old simple syrup helps to sweeten up the lemon and blueberries. I usually just use store bought, but you can also make your own or use regular sugar in a pinch.
- Vodka: Any 80-proof vodka will work, I personally love Tito’s or Kirkland vodka.
- Sparkling Water: I often opt for San Pellegrino or Perrier sparkling water to top off the drink, but club soda would also work just fine.
- Rosemary: A fresh sprig of rosemary perfectly complements the bright citrus and fruity flavors of the drink.
- For Serving: I like to add a sugar rim to the glass, but you can skip this step if you’d like to cut back on sugar content. And don’t forget to serve it over ice!
How to Make a Blueberry Lemon Smash
- Prep your glass: Begin by rimming your glass with sugar. You can do this by running a lemon wedge around the rim of the glass, then rubbing the edge of the glass in a plate of sugar
- Muddle: Add the blueberries, lemon wedge and simple syrup directly to the glass and muddle. You could also muddle in a separate glass and strain the mixture if you prefer your cocktail with the “carcass out.”
- Add Vodka: Add your shot of vodka to the glass and mix with a cocktail spoon.
- Chill: Place your mixture in the fridge to chill for 20-30 minutes to let the vodka become infused with the fruit flavors. You can skip this step if you’re pressed for time.
- Top Off, Garnish & Serve: Pull your glass out of the fridge and add ice to it, then fill it to the top with sparkling water, garnish with a rosemary sprig and serve!
Serving a Crowd
If you’re planning to serve this cocktail for multiple people, I would recommend prepping it ahead of time in your rimmed glasses, then simple topping off and garnishing when your guests arrive. You could also double, triple or quadruple the ingredients in a pitcher, then divvy it up between glasses when it’s time to serve.
Cocktail Tools
I purchased this chic black muddler from Amazon. It’s nice and sturdy and never gets stained since it’s black, plus it’s very affordable! I also purchased this gold cocktail spoon from Crate and Barrel. Check out my full collection of recommended bar tools and glasses.
This fruity concoction with a little sugar rim is the perfect beverage for spring and summer, too. I really hope you enjoy this drink as much as I do!
