She’s back with another smoothie installment! You know I live for smoothies. Seriously, I eat them almost every day, which means sometimes I need to get creative! I have been really loving blueberry smoothies as of late, and I wanted to shake it up by making one into a smoothie bowl. I absolutely love the contrast of a smooth, cold base and crunchy topping. It’s also super easy to create this delicious smoothie base and you can add just about whatever toppings you want!
Everything You’ll Need to Make a Blueberry Smoothie Bowl
- Banana: I always start out my smoothies with a banana! Bananas add great flavor and natural sweetness, and pack so many awesome nutrients.
- Frozen Blueberries: Frozen blueberries add the main flavor to this smoothie bowl and make the base nice and icy. I usually get my frozen blueberries from Aldi!
- Spinach: I like to sneak a handful of spinach into this smoothie as well! You can’t really see or taste it, but I like to know that it’s adding some extra nutrients to the mix.
- Vanilla Greek Yogurt: I prefer Greek yogurt to regular yogurt due to its texture, tanginess and added health benefits, but you can use whichever style of yogurt you prefer. If you decide to use plain yogurt versus flavored, you could also add extra honey to sweeten it up.
- Milk: Adding milk is the best way to thin out your smoothie and make it blend better! I love whole milk for its full-bodied flavor and creaminess, but you can add whatever type of milk you prefer! Real milk also packs 13 essential nutrients in an 8-oz serving, so I always make sure to use it as opposed to plant-based milk alternatives that do not contain the same nutrient content.
- Chia Seeds: Chia seeds add a little extra boost of fiber to the mix, and you can add as much or as little as you want! I also like to add extra on top of my smoothie bowl for aesthetics.
- Honey: I love honey – probably too much! It adds a touch of sweetness to the smoothie and a little goes a long way. You can add as much as you want or skip this ingredient if you feel like the smoothie is already sweet enough for you!
- Vanilla Extract: I like to add a little vanilla extract just to round out the flavor, but if you don’t have any you can totally skip this ingredient as well! I recently started making my own homemade vanilla extract (it’s a lot easier than you might think!), so I’ve been adding it to everything.
- Toppings: I prefer to add extra sliced banana, blueberries, granola and honey to the top of my smoothie bowl, as well as a little sprinkle of chia seeds. Feel free to get creative and add any toppings you want – even fresh strawberries or peaches would be delicious!
How to Make a Blueberry Smoothie Bowl
It couldn’t be easier to make this blueberry smoothie! Simply blend all of your ingredients until smooth, then pour into a bowl and top with your desired toppings! If your ingredients are struggling to blend, try adding a bit more milk or start by blending on a low setting, then gradually increasing the intensity. If you choose to serve your smoothie bowl as part of a board like I did, make sure to chop and section off your toppings into separate bowls and display them on the board.
Of course, you could also enjoy this smoothie on its own if you prefer! Simply blend all of the ingredients, pour in a glass and serve!
Smoothie Tools
I was gifted a Vitamix blender from my wedding registry and I am beyond obsessed. Obviously a Vitamix is a big purchase, and any blender will work just fine, but if you’re in the market for one, they are significantly discounted at Costco (where mine was purchased from). I often use the blending cup attachment to make single-serve smoothies for myself. I also love to serve my smoothies in these fun glasses!
I really hope you enjoy this fun smoothie bowl idea, and check out this video tutorial for how to make it! For more smoothie recipes, try my Tropical Green Smoothie and Orange Dream Smoothie.
