May 3, 2024This simple Burrata Caprese Salad made with fresh tomato and avocado, fragrant basil and velvety burrata cheese drizzled with balsamic vinegar is bursting with flavor in every bite!
You know when you’re in the mood for something delicious but cannot be bothered to cook anything elaborate? That happens to me all the time. Caprese salad is one of my favorite go-to recipes because it’s incredibly easy to make, yet so elevated and stylish – and it tastes delicious!
It is actually a wonder that such simple ingredients can taste so good together! However, really good ingredients do make all the difference. When grocery shopping for this meal, I grabbed a ripe and juicy tomato and threw in a ripe avocado as well to shake things up a little. While traditional caprese salad calls for fresh mozzarella, I decided that some fresh burrata sounded even better. Fresh basil is also a must! If you don’t have your own ill-fated indoor-outdoor basil plant at home like me, store bought will do just fine.
Caprese salad also makes a perfect cold appetizer that can be made a few hours ahead of time and stored in the fridge when hosting company. Or if you’re like me, it makes a great Friday afternoon snack, paired with a juicy red wine. Enjoy!
Everything I Used to Make Burrata Caprese Salad
Here’s the ingredients you’ll need to make this quick and easy caprese salad!
- Tomato: A ripe and juicy beefsteak tomato cut into thick slices makes the perfect base of this layered salad. Of course, any other kind of tomato would work as well!
- Avocado: Avocado is not typically part of a traditional caprese salad however, I say why not?! Avocado makes everything better and it mixes perfectly with the fresh flavors in this salad.
- Burrata: While caprese salad traditionally calls for fresh mozzarella, I think using burrata in its place takes the dish up another notch! I love to break it apart over top of the tomato and avocado so that the stracciatella spills out.
- Fresh Basil: A nice handful of fresh, fragrant basil leaves brings this salad together!
- Olive Oil & Lemon Juice: I always drizzle my caprese salad with a little olive oil, fresh lemon juice, salt and pepper for good measure.
- Balsamic Vinegar: To finish it off, a little drizzle of balsamic vinegar adds a delicious flavor and bite to this salad!
How to Make a Burrata Caprese Salad
- Slice Tomatoes & Avocado: Cut your tomato and avocado into nice, thick slices that will layer well.
- Assemble in Bowl: Layer your tomato slices, followed by avocado slices in a bowl. I like to hold back a few avocado slices to add on top of the burrata once it’s added.
- Add Cheese: Pull apart your burrata so it covers the salad and top it with a few more avocado slices if you desire.
- Add Basil: Top your salad with a beautiful bunch of fresh basil, you can add as much as you please!
- Drizzle & Serve: Drizzle olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper and finally, balsamic vinegar on top of your salad and serve immediately!
