Easy Burrata Caprese Salad
April 25, 2024Italian Sausage Red Pepper Quiche
June 7, 2024Made with refreshing mandarin oranges, fresh lime juice, premium tequila and a hint of agave, this margarita is a burst of sunshine in every sip!
I have found myself experimenting more and more with tequila, and since I almost always have a bag of mandarin oranges stored in my fridge, I wanted to try whipping up a little margarita with them! Let me tell you the results were so refreshing and citrusy – one sip and you’ll want to abandon all responsibilities for several days and just lay in the sun.
As I am writing this, it is currently noon on a Thursday and I have yet to eat anything, save for the half of a marg in my belly (for research, of course.) It will really be a wonder if I accomplish anything at all the rest of the day!
While of course you can use any tequila to make this delicious margarita, I have recently developed quite the affinity for 818 (as the girlies do.) The older I get, the more I can really tell the difference between good quality tequila and lower shelf tequila in terms of flavor (and the effects on my body.) But regardless of what tequila you choose, the citrusy flavors of this drink will spiritually transport you to a place of summer bliss.

Everything You’ll Need to Make a Mandarin Orange Margarita
Here’s everything I used to make this simple margarita recipe!
- Tequila: You can use whatever kind of tequila you prefer for this margarita! Personally, I like to stick to blanco tequila. You will see that I made this particular recipe with one of my favorites – 818 Tequila from “my friend Kendall Jenner!”
- Mandarin Orange: The juice of a mandarin orange is really the star ingredient of this recipe. It adds a deliciously fresh and sweet flavor to the margarita, which I much prefer to a sugary orange liquor! You can also substitute a tangerine, clementine or half of a regular orange if you would like.
- Lime: Fresh lime juice is always essential for a homemade margarita. Bottled lime juice will work as well but I don’t think it quite tastes the same. I love to garnish my marg with a little lime wheel for some extra flair!
- Agave Nectar: Agave nectar adds just a touch of sweetness to this drink. You can add as little or as much as you like, I usually just add a dash! If you don’t have agave nectar, a little simple syrup or regular sugar would work well to sweeten it up.
- Margarita Salt: If you like a salty margarita then don’t forget to add some margarita salt to the rim of your glass. Sometimes I like to mix my salt with a little lime or orange zest for extra visual appeal and flavor! If you prefer your margarita without salt, then you can skip this step or substitute for sugar.
How to Make a Mandarin Orange Margarita
- Prep Your Glass: Run your halved lime around the rim of the margarita glass, then rub the edge of the glass in the margarita salt.
- Shake: Add ice, tequila, lime juice, mandarin orange juice and agave nectar to a cocktail shaker. Cover and shake for 30 seconds.
- Strain & Garnish: Strain the mixture into your glass filled with ice then garnish with a little lime wheel.
- Serve: Serve immediately and enjoy!
Serving A Crowd
You can most definitely make this margarita in a big batch and store it in the refrigerator for a few hours when hosting company! Just mix your ingredients in a pitcher rather than a cocktail shaker and let it chill in the fridge – and make sure not to add ice until you’re ready to serve!
Cocktail Tools
-This cocktail shaker is similar to the one I have – they have lots of chic options at Target. I also have a gold bar tools set similar to this one from Target, which includes a jigger and strainer. Check out my full collection of recommended bar tools and glasses.
