February 9, 2024This orange dream smoothie is as simple as it is delicious and can be made with just a few wholesome ingredients that you probably have in your pantry or fridge. Sipping on this creamy, dreamy smoothie will bring a little bit of sunshine into your busy day!
I love making smoothies during the week, especially for breakfast or lunch. They are so easy to whip up and leave me feeling nourished without a midday crash. I usually go for a berry or matcha flavored smoothie, but since the weather is getting warmer, I wanted to create something that felt a little more tropical.
I threw this smoothie together with ingredients that I had on hand, and I haven’t modified the recipe since. It’s just so easy and yummy! I tend to keep my smoothies pretty simple, but you can always customize yours with protein powder, chia seeds or other ingredients to make them more filling. For me, adding Greek yogurt and milk does the trick.
Everything You'll Need to Make an Orange Dream Smoothie
- Banana: I like to freeze a couple of bananas at the beginning of the week for all of my smoothie needs. I use bananas in pretty much every smoothie I make – they add great flavor and natural sweetness, and pretty much go well with any combination of ingredients.
- Orange: A ripe orange is the star of this smoothie! I have found it easiest to cut the orange into quarters and then peel each quarter before adding to the blender.
- Medjool Date: I usually buy a bag of these at Aldi to keep in my pantry. I have found that the pitted dates tend to harden faster and therefore don’t last as long, so I like to buy the whole ones.
- Vanilla Greek Yogurt: I prefer Greek yogurt to regular yogurt due to its texture, tanginess and added health benefits, but you could use any style of yogurt. If you have plain yogurt, you could easily add vanilla and a bit of honey to sweeten it up.
- Milk: Adding milk is the best way to thin out your smoothie and make it blend better. I love whole milk for its full-bodied flavor and creaminess, but any type of real milk will work well and add essential nutrients to your smoothie. I personally do not prefer to drink plant-based milk alternatives because they do not have the same nutrient content as real milk.
How to Make an Orange Dream Smoothie
Making an orange dream smoothie couldn’t be easier. Simply add all of your ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. If your ingredients are struggling to blend, try adding a bit more milk or start by blending on a low setting, then gradually increasing the intensity. I love to pour my smoothie into a chic glass and garnish with a little orange slice to brighten up my day! You could always double up this recipe if you want to serve it to your family or friends as well.
Smoothie Tools
I was recently gifted a Vitamix blender from my wedding registry and I am obsessed. Obviously a Vitamix is a big purchase and any blender will work, but if you’re in the market for one, they are significantly discounted at Costco (where mine was purchased from). I usually use the blending cup attachment to make single-serve smoothies for myself.
I love to serve my smoothies in these glasses (they don’t have to be used for just beer) and love to use these silicone straws as well!
I hope you enjoy this delicious smoothie. If you're looking for more smoothie recipes, check out my refreshing Tropical Green Smoothie!
