I’m back with another smoothie edition, this time, for fall! This Maple Apple Crisp Smoothie is a healthy treat that tastes like dessert in a glass. Great for breakfast or an afternoon snack, this smoothie packs a punch of fiber, protein and natural sweetness. Ready in minutes, it's an easy way to enjoy the taste of a classic apple crisp in a nutritious way!
Everything You’ll Need to Make a Maple Apple Crisp Smoothie
- Honeycrisp Apple: You can use whatever kind of apple you prefer, however in the fall, fresh honeycrisp apples are in season and I like to use them in any way I can!
- Banana: My smoothies pretty much always include a banana! Bananas add great flavor and natural sweetness, and pack so many awesome nutrients. Make sure your banana is frozen so that your smoothie maintains a nice texture as well.
- Greek Yogurt: I prefer Greek yogurt to regular yogurt due to its texture, tanginess and added health benefits, but you can use whichever style of yogurt you prefer. I used vanilla-flavored yogurt for this recipe, but you could also use plain!
- Milk: Adding milk is the best way to thin out your smoothie and make it blend better! I love whole milk for its full-bodied flavor and creaminess, but you can add whatever type of milk you prefer! Real milk also packs 13 essential nutrients in an 8-oz serving, so I always make sure to use it as opposed to plant-based milk alternatives that do not contain the same nutrient content.
- Oats: Make sure to use instant oatmeal or quick oats, as opposed to old-fashioned oats. I actually used a packet of maple-flavored instant oatmeal that I had in the pantry to make this recipe for the first time, and they were a perfect addition!
- Maple Syrup: Maple syrup adds just the right amount of sweetness and maple flavor to this smoothie! You can always reduce the amount if you’re looking to cut back on added sugar.
- Vanilla Extract: I like to add a little vanilla extract just to round out the flavor, but if you don’t have any you can totally skip this ingredient as well! I recently started making my own homemade vanilla extract (it’s a lot easier than you might think,) so I’ve been adding it to everything.
- Cinnamon: A sprinkle of cinnamon makes this smoothie taste like a real apple crisp. I wouldn’t recommend skipping this step!
- Ice: Adding ice to your smoothie is another optional step! I have found that adding a cube or two improves the texture of the smoothie and makes it a little less liquid.
- Optional Toppings: If you’re serving this smoothie to guests and want to go above and beyond, try garnishing with a sprinkle of cinnamon and cinnamon stick, or some granola and a fun straw!
How to Make a Maple Apple Crisp Smoothie
This Maple Apple Crisp Smoothie is a no brainer! Simply blend all of your ingredients until smooth, then pour into a glass, top with any optional garnish and serve! If your ingredients are struggling to blend, try adding a bit more milk or start by blending on a low setting, then gradually increasing the intensity.
Smoothie Tools
I was gifted a Vitamix blender from my wedding registry and I am beyond obsessed. Obviously a Vitamix is a big purchase, and any blender will work just fine, but if you’re in the market for one, they are significantly discounted at Costco (where mine was purchased from). I often use the blending cup attachment to make single-serve smoothies for myself. I also love to serve my smoothies in these fun glasses!
I really hope you enjoy this fun smoothie bowl idea! For more smoothie recipes, check out my Tropical Green Smoothie or Blueberry Smoothie Bowl Board.
