Just last week I proclaimed myself not to be a true bourbon girly, yet here I am, back again with another recipe incorporating it! Welcome to the ultimate fall treat: Pumpkin Spice Bourbon Bread! As the temperature starts to cool, there’s nothing quite like the warm, cozy flavors of pumpkin bread. But this recipe takes it up a notch with a splash of bourbon, adding depth and warmth to this irresistible loaf. Whether you're looking for a comforting breakfast or a unique addition to your holiday spread, this bread is sure to become a seasonal favorite. Here’s how to make this easy fall recipe!
Everything You Need to Make Pumpkin Spice Bourbon Bread
- Pumpkin Puree: One can of pumpkin puree is the star of this recipe! Just make sure to use pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling!
- All-Purpose Flour, Baking Soda & Salt: For the base of this bread, you’ll just need these simple baking staples that you probably have in your pantry right now!
- Granulated Sugar & Brown Sugar: A mix of regular sugar and brown sugar achieves the perfect level of sweetness and touch of fall flavor to this bread.
- Cinnamon & Pumpkin Pie Spice: These spices contribute the ultimate cozy fall flavors!
- Eggs & Vegetable Oil: You’ll need two eggs for this recipe to achieve a bread that’s more dense but still fluffy, as well as vegetable oil.
- Milk: Milk adds moisture– I recommend using whole milk, but you can use whatever milk you have on hand.
- Vanilla Extract & Bourbon: Vanilla extract and bourbon also round out the delicious flavor of this bread, I used Woodford Reserve! If you don’t have bourbon or prefer not to include it, you can use a full teaspoon of vanilla extract instead of half of a teaspoon.
How to Make Pumpkin Spice Bourbon Bread
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add dry ingredients (flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice and salt) and stir.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate medium mixing bowl, whisk together wet ingredients (pumpkin puree, eggs, vegetable oil, milk, vanilla extract and bourbon.)
- Combine Ingredients: Add wet ingredients to the bowl of dry ingredients and stir to combine. (It’s okay if the mixture stays a little chunky, try not to over-stir.)
- Add to Pan & Bake: Pour batter into a well-greased 9×5-inch loaf pan and bake for 20 minutes.
- Add Topping: After 20 minutes have passed, remove the bread and add brown sugar topping.
- Finish Baking & Cool: Return bread to the oven for 30-40 minutes and bake until golden brown. Let cool for 15-20 minutes before serving.
